Arman Tsarukyan again showcased his dominance as he secured a TKO victory over Joaquim Silva at UFC Vegas 75 on Saturday. Heading into the bout, the Georgian fighter (20-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) was heavily favored by betting odds. However, the fight proved to be a tougher challenge than anticipated.
Silva (12-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) managed to land a powerful left hook in the first round, momentarily rocking Tsarukyan. Despite the setback, Tsarukyan made an impressive recovery, took control of the fight and brought it to the ground.
The 26-year-old unleashed a barrage of strikes from the top position, overwhelming Silva, who struggled to defend himself. The referee intervened and halted the contest, declaring Tsarukyan the winner by TKO at 3 minutes and 25 seconds into the third round.
With his second consecutive victory, Tsarukyan is gaining momentum in his pursuit of a title shot. In his previous outing, he secured a unanimous decision victory over Damir Ismagulov in the UFC Fight Night 216 co-main event.
Tsarukyanâs record of seven wins has solidified his position as one of the top rising contenders in the lightweight division. He now sets his sights on challenging the reigning champion, Islam Makhachev, expressing confidence in his ability to emerge victorious.
Additionally, Tsarukyan expressed his interest in facing Beneil Dariush, who recently lost to former champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 289.
âIf Dariush can fight in Abu Dhabi in October, I definitely want to fight with him. If not, and you know me, Iâm going to fight everybody, but [I want] somebody from the top fiveâ[Michael] Chandler, Dariush, whatever. But I think a fight with Dariush makes sense,â Tsarukyan said in the post-fight interview.
While Dariush may be the logical choice for a title shot, Tsarukyan revealed that he would prefer to face Michael Chandler instead. Chandler, currently coaching a team on The Ultimate Fighter, has an uncertain future due to Conor McGregorâs USADA status and ongoing sexual assault allegations.
Tsarukyan sees Chandler as an appealing opponent due to his win streak and being the youngest fighter in the top 15 rankings.
