Lightweight contenders Rafael Fiziev and Mateusz Gamrot will headline UFC Fight Night on September 23 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, as confirmed by UFC President Dana White to ESPN on Thursday.
In addition, the card will feature a co-main event between two top-15 featherweights, Bryce Mitchell (15-1) and Dan Ige (17-6). Mitchell is currently ranked No. 12, while Ige is ranked No. 13.
The card will also feature a middleweight matchup between Cody Durden and Bruno Silva. In the strawweight division, Hannah Goldy will face Mizuki Inoue.
Additionally, featherweight veterans Charles Jourdain and Ricardo Ramos will clash in a 145-pound showdown.
The 30-year-old Fiziev (12-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) had a winning streak that involved Alex White, Marc Diakiese, Bobby Green, Renato Moicano and Brad Riddell. He also won a knockout against former title holder Rafael dos Anjos last July.
In March, he had a strong start in his UFC 286 co-main event against Justin Gaethje but ultimately lost in a close decision. It was his first loss since his promotional debut in April 2019.
Since then, the current number six rank has been sidelined. This fight against Gamrot will be his return to the Octagon.
Meanwhile, Gamrot (22-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) is looking for his second straight win after defeating Jalin Turner by a split decision in a short-notice fight at UFC 285.
Before his loss to Beneil Dariush in October, he had secured four consecutive victories over Scott Holtzman, Jeremy Stephens, Diego Ferreira and Arman Tsarukyan.
The winner of the September 23 matchup could be in contention for the UFC lightweight title alongside the UFC 291 main event winner between Dustin Poirier and Gaethje.
Notably, champion Islam Makhachev is scheduled to defend the title in a rematch with former champion Charles Oliveira at UFC 294 on October 21.
