The Miami Dolphins beat the New York Giants 31-16 at home on Sunday. Dolphins rookie RB De’Von Achane scored a 76-yard touchdown in the second quarter, giving Miami a 17-10 halftime lead.
With the TD, Achane made history as the first NFL player to record three consecutive games with over 100 rushing yards and an average of 10+ yards per carry. He concluded the game with 151 yards on 11 carries, a performance unmatched by a Dolphins player since Jay Ajayi in 2016.
“It’s very promising to know that he knows where he’s going to line up and then basically if he’s getting the ball, you know it’s going to be a big play more often than not,” Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa said of the 21-year-old RB.
With the Dolphins gaining 524 yards against the Giants, their season total now stands at 2,568. This set an NFL record for the most yards in the season’s first five games. This win propelled Miami (4-1) back into first place in the AFC East, following the Bills’ (3-2) loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London earlier on Sunday.
Aside from Achane’s 76-yard TD, Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill scored a 64-yard TD with a top speed of 22.01 mph, the fastest ball-carrier speed in the NFL this season.
Hill also had a 69-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter that put the Dolphins ahead 24-10. However, he received a taunting penalty after jumping into the stands to give the ball to his mother.
Hill explained his mom had said before the game she wanted to celebrate with him if he scored a touchdown. Hill expressed concerns about fines, but his mother said, “I don’t care about that. I need to be a part of [it] today. Make it about Mama.”
