The San Francisco 49ers secured a 34-3 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday after welcoming defensive end Chase Young on board and pairing him with fellow defensive end Nick Bosa.
Young ed the 49ers after the team sent a third-round pick to the Washington Commanders on October 31, 2023. Bosa and Young both played for the Ohio State Buckeyes, with Bosa being active from 2016 to 2018 and Young from 2017 to 2019.
Upon reuniting, Bosa and Young sacked quarterback Trevor Lawrence during a second-and-15. As a result, Bosa secured the ball and scored for San Francisco.
Bosa successfully led the 49ersâ edge defenders with 44 pressures in total. Along with defensive lineman Clelin Ferrell, the two added two other sacks during the second half, which brings San Franciscoâs grand total to five during Week 10.
âHaving him is such a big threat. I think we played off of each other well. Me and him are really excited to keep going,â Bosa said of Young.
Mondayâs win ended the 49ersâ three-game loss streak. Bosa said that the win was a âgood resetâ for San Francisco to ensure their drive remains strong this season.
âJust how we overcame a bunch of stuff. I didnât think we played perfect ball by any means, which you never do⌠I was just happy that the mistakes that we did make, we always overcame,â 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars had been on a five-game winning streak before the loss.
âYouâve got to feel the pain and embarrassment of today. Thatâs what it is, itâs terrible. One of the worst games Iâve probably played in my career. I feel that, and I take responsibility for that. We couldnât do anything right today. But, youâve got to flush it too,â Lawrence said.
