The New York Jets have replaced Tim Boyle with Trevor Siemian after a 13-8 loss against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday.
The Jets have been on a spree in changing their quarterback. Starting with Zach Wilson to replace Aaron Rodgers, Boyle to Replace Wilson and finally, Siemian to replace Boyle.
Before changing to Siemian, Jets coach Robert Saleh had mulled the possibility of reverting to Wilson, who had won three of nine starts this season before Boyle stepped in. Sticking with Boyle was also a consideration. However, Boyle had only managed one touchdown in 18 drives across two starts after replacing Wilson, contributing to four false starts on Sunday.
Despite Rodgers insisting on returning this season after claiming he had finished his recovery from torn Achilles, Saleh said he lacked concrete information about his return.
âWith regard to practice, I donât have anything for you guys on that. Like I said, when we get a doctorâs note that says he is cleared, he will be cleared for practice,â said Saleh.
New York is struggling on all fronts, according to a statement by Jets linebacker C.J. Mosley when reflecting on his teamâs inept performance this season.
âThe truth is, we have the quarterback position right now, the offense is struggling, the defense is just trying to maintain, special teams trying to do the same. Itâs no secret. Thatâs just the cards we were dealt this year,â said Mosley.
Despite stepping up as a replacement for Boyle, Siemian said he could not cause swift changes to New Yorkâs fortune on Sunday, where he completed five out of 17 es and had three fumbles.
âI had the ball on the ground too many times⌠thatâs my job, take care of the ball,â said the 31-year-old QB.
Siemian started with the Jets in September 2019 but suffered an ankle injury during his first season against the Cleveland Browns in Week 2, causing a torn ligament. After being signed to the practice squad on September 26, 2023, he returned to the team on November 21, 2023.
